Beneficial effects of consuming hydrolyzed collagen
September 05 2023 – Melissa Alvarez
Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body, representing 25% of the total body protein. Different types of collagen have been identified, the most common being found mainly in skin, bones, teeth, tendons, ligaments, vascular ligaments and organs.
In order for our body to absorb and use ingested collagen, it must be hydrolyzed. Hydrolyzed collagen is a mixture of collagen peptides, it is obtained from the gelatinization and subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis of native collagen from animal tissues. It has been found in various clinical studies that hydrolyzed collagen has a large number of benefits for the body, such as:
- Positive effect on degenerative osteoarticular diseases and skin aging.
- Better hydration and elasticity of the skin
- Wrinkle reduction and redensification
- Better dermis functionality
- Reduces joint pain from wear and tear
- Slows bone loss
- Prevents and treats chronic degenerative diseases (osteoarthritis and osteoporosis)
- In fibromyalgia patients, it helps relieve musculoskeletal pain.
- Helps better preserve muscle mass.
